Can anybody tell me why I've got clouds of white smoke bellowing from underneath the rear of my vw sharan, I think it has got something to do with the rear auxiliary heater. It happened once before about a year ago & now it has returned.

Whats going on :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

It's just had a full service last week, how do you go about servicing the heater? Is a job for a pro or is it diy?

Ah, so he serviced the car not the heater?.
Look at this website http://butlertechnik.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; about halfway down you can choose the model heater you've got and see if they do a service kit

I will most probably have a manual - presumably it is a Webasto?

They work when the ambient temp drops, on a T4 it's 5°c.
If it's cold enough the aux heater comes on and assists the engine warming up to give decent heaters.

It is most probably just in need of a de-coke - the clouds of smoke shows that the glow pin isn't reaching the correct temp at start up.

turn it up full and go for a drive , see if that helps clear it

Was it smoke or just steam? Not unusual to emit steam if there is high humidity or condensation in the unit.

I wouldn't have thought that a bit of condensation would be described as clouds of smoke whereas incomplete heating of the fuel on startup truly is a cloud. It is like a peas-souper - ask Trucker as his glow plug fouled and he was laying down a smoke screen!

Are they all Webasto type aux heaters? We've got one in our old heap of a runabout T-reg petrol Sharan but the car is dying fast (I blame the 50% F0rd influence) but I've never investigated it. I will now

It is smoke. No doubt about it. Going to have a closer look this weekend. The misses was out in the car today but no sign of any smoke, that's the strange part :?
