Hiya,
Just wondering if anyone's come up with an alternative position to locate the fuel pump, rather than having it hang from the tank strap?

The mount has broken off my strap and it was hanging by a cable tie!!!
Piccys would be good
cheers,
Rich

Because the straps themselves (both) suffer badly with corrosion and often need replacing (with home-made ones as the VW ones are expensive), then during that fix, it's usual to re-make a slightly better pump mount at the same time, but in the same way.

The other issue to be aware of when the pump is off is corrosion of the bimetallic type. The pump body can get corroded right through and leak, on the upper side.

I made some stainless straps from about 20swg ss and remounted a new pump after wrapping it in a rubber sheath (the old one had been repaired with 'filler' and was leaking).

You could reposition further forward in front of the cross-member, but it must be below the bottom of the tank outlet.

Have a strap design or two somewhere if these are badly rsuetd through. Though the tank is hardly likely to drop down even if they are missing, but will maybe jiggle a round a bit and fret here and there.

I got a new bracket and mount from vw the other day as mine is suspended by the usual cable ties and wrapped in rubber but was unable to remove the old bits of the mounts. Its now back on cable ties until I get the motivation to get these bits off - they are well rusted on and difficult to access

Thanks for the replies.
I've managed to reuse an old bracket from a badly coroded tank strap and rivet it onto a good spare tank strap (that was missing the bracket).........<Mental note>Must learn to weld......</Mental note>

I can sympathise with you Ray - I had to angle grind the old nuts off for the rubber mounts as they were too far gone to remove.

Just got to get some new mounts now from VW.

cheers,
Rich
