the pipe on expansion tank screw lid (inside the engine)looks very twisted and old (this is the thin pipe that runs to the bottom of the water tank by the flap)

to change is it

1 engine cold
2 cut new pipe to length (have some in the van)
3 swop over ?
4. top up tank by flap as minimal water would come out when swopping
any thing else to it ? air bubbles ?

as there is no pressure you can change it fine buddy, just top the top up tank to max and jobs a good un

If you take the pipe off the darlek cap end lower it you can drain the coolant into a container and reuse it

The pipe I had was way to narrow to fit on the cap or tank

I know it has to be pipe that has material braiding what size/width do I need ?

Internal or external braiding? External (the cotton covering) is only used for either prettification or abrasion resistance, so that's a definite "not needed". It doesn't need internal braiding (inside the rubber, visible when you cut it) either. It's under no pressure, and it's not got particularly aggressive or hot fluid in it, and only a bit of relatively low-level ambient heat. Just some hose that'll fit. Take the dalek in to your local car spares place and ask for a foot to fit.

Yep to both.

If you were to remove the braiding, you'd find "normal hose" inside.
