Drive flange oil seals

Have had a read of the Wiki and it says "fit seal using a socket of almost the same diameter as seal"

I don't have a 70mm socket, does anyone have any ideas how to get the seal in without bending it too much?

Use the smallest hammer you have and lightly tap around the seal, endeavouring to keep the seal perfectly square at all times. An application of grease or oil to the seal beforehand also helps. Just don't whack it!
If the old seal came out in reasonable shape then that can be used as added protection for the new seal whilst tapping it in.

Gear box all assembled- drive flange seals in, drive flange, washer, circlip and cap all in place.

Then I notice this line in Bentley manual
"fill lips of seal with multi-purpose grease"

Do I need to go back, dismantle it all again and put this in? Is this a vital step?

(I have a horrible feeling I already know the answer to this)
