Camper Electrics

Hello, I have just brought my camper and I have been trying to see what is happening with the Electrics. Just joined this Forum and Club too.

I have found both batteries and they seem to work OK
I have an Electrolux Fridge, Coffee Machine and a Fan all running off 12 V OK.
The puzzle is, their is a Two Pin plug under the Passenger seat that leads also to the Light and Fridge. I can only assume the Light and Fridge are both 12V and 220V.

Their is no RCB in site.

So my question is, does anyone else recognize this configuration ?
And do you think if I connect an RCB ( Garden Type I thought) it would be safe to use ?

I should mention I live in Germany and the Camper was brought here

Hi John, welcome to the wonderful world of 80-90.

Your Electrolux fridge must be a '3-way' model ie: it runs off either gas/12v/240v. Only use gas when the van is stationary, never when being driven!

I am not familiar with German electrics but I have just bought an RCD unit for my camper. It's an MK garage/shed type unit with a main on/off switch protected by a circuit breaker. Then there is a 16amp cb for the socket circuit & a 6amp cb for the lighting circuit. I havn't actually fitted it yet. I can do some of the work myself but I will be getting a properly qualified electrickery man to connect up the gubbins inside the RCD unit.

Hope this helps a bit. :)

Yes Thanks

I have been giving it some thought and I think I will get it done properly as well. It will be safer and the wife does not want extentions cables hanging out of windows.

Wife often does a sanity check on my ideas
