What do people use to spray waxoyl cavity wax? I've got a pressure can that's supposed to be used with their plastic sprayer, and I've got a couple of 5l refills. Unfortunately my waxoyl plastic sprayer is broken and leaks more from the trigger than it sprays. It's such a dreadful unwieldy thing that I'm loathe to buy another. So I was looking for an attachment to spray it using my compressor, but all I can find is the triggers that are supposed to attach to the underbody Schutz cans, and the thread on those is not quite the same as the 5l refill cans I think.

I suspect waxoyl is too thick to be used with my normal paint spray attachment, and anyway I need something with a probe for getting into cavities. I know I can buy spray cans of the stuff, but since I've got over 10l of the stuff it makes sense to try and use that first.

So any bright ideas what I can use to spray it?

SG18 is very good but expensive look around you can get them cheaper.

You buy a small Schutz can for use on the airline trigger gun and refill that from the refill cans - that's what I did anyway. (Actually I got a free can of aerosol first due to error on the sender's packing which was useless for the airline! )

Buy the schutz gun. Half-way decent cavity waxes are supplied in 1l schutz can. Waxoyl is, umm, the wax equivalent of hammersh*te. And that ain't a compliment.

Yes, I've got an unused can of Schutz, so I'd thought of pouring that out temporarily and using the canister with one of those compressor guns.

The SG18 looks good but a bit expensive for me I think. What about the SG16 - that looks like a standard compressor gun but includes a canister. I've found a place locally that sells it for £25. It says it's for the underbody stuff, but will it also work with cavity wax? Would I get a decent spray from the end of the flexible probe?

Sold as being for wax, from an outfit that sells good wax, for £21 inc vat.

The SG18 pressurises the pot spraying the wax into a nice mist. Not sure if the SG16 just a suction type. The problem with the suction types unless the wax is at the right consistency the spray mist can be variable you need it to spray in a six inch radius to any good.

Ah, ok, thanks. Yes, the suction type will only work properly if there's decent flow I suppose. For the difference in price though I think I'll just have to work on getting the right consistency.

The suction type seems to be OK if the wax is heated up enough and it is done in the summer, as soon as the temperature drops it gets thicker quickly so I have found leading to the poorer spray pattern.

Right then - this evening it is then! Picked up an SG16 and a tube of polymer sealant (for my pop-top canvas) for £30 this morning from Wayside Adhesives. Thanks for all the advice folks - since I already have over 10l of waxoyl it made more sense to use this if possible.

thin the waxoyl down 50/50 with white spirit and warm it before spraying it flows easily then
