Went low, going back up question.

I bought the van with -70mm springs and shorter shocks already fitted. They were awful springs (relaxed I was told on a separate thread

) so I changed them for -50mm from brickwerks. The question is, if I went back to standard length shocks, will I have to change the shock absorbers as well or is there enough travel in the shorter ones to cope? Anyone help with this please? Cheers!

I dont understand the question , do you mean go back to standard height springs ? if so as said already , then yes. I have some standard height springs that you can have for £20 + p and p if you wanted them... not sure why you would though !

Hello Pionte,
Well, I've just put some larger tyres and wheels on and when I go over the largest of bumps on Britains finest roads I very occasionaly rub the tyres on the bodywork

I will have a look at the shocks and may well have a nearly new set of -50 brickwerks springs for sale. Pionte I will PM you thanks.

Unless the bumpstops have been cut back, then it won't make any/much difference, since the resting height of the suspension doesn't affect the extreme of travel. Depending on spring rates, you might get to that extreme sooner or later, but it'll still be the same place.

Bump stops are the same, the shock covers were cut back by a couple of ridges though.

larger tyres and wheels...... you didn't say that in the first post..
OK that needs explaining. if you have gone out of spec then that could spell trouble

Thanks for the replies.
Wheels are 16" Mercedes steels 16x6 ET 39. Tyres are 195x75x16.
I've gone much bigger on the wheels/tyres to change the gear ratios without spending money I dont have on gearbox ratio mods (Subaru 2.5). This has already made driving more relaxed and comfortable but I am getting an occasional scrape under the drivers side (I am not small). As a remedy I was thinking of fitting standard length front springs and doing a syncro spacer fix to match up the rear height?
I have springs from the POs H&R 70mm drop kit still fitted with a set of -50 Avo springs I bought from Mr Baxter a few months ago. I don't have the money to change both springs and shocks so wanted to know if I could use the existing shocks with standard length springs?

Change the front tyres for slightly narrower ones to the correct rolling radius spec and you should be OK
