Copper coolant pipe replacement - £95!

So we have a copper pipe running round the engine bay as our coolant pipe. I am unsure of how common these are, i've been told not very common at all on here. Anyway i'd like to replace it as I think it's starting to look a bit rough.

Just had a look for a plastic replacement on vwheretige (the only place i could find one) and there £95!

This price is way way higher than the cost of materials surely, it just seems like a blatant rip off.

I was wondering if anyone had any special info for me, does the plastic used have to be in some way special due to it having to resist chemicals and heat at the same time?

I plan to put a parts list together so anyone can make one of these coolant pipes with ease if it turns out to be straight forward.

Any tips, previous experience or a cheaper price for a new one would be appreciated.

To set the ball rolling I was thinking something like these with some connecting (silicone?) pipe. (I realise these aren't the right size but it's just to get an idea)

Do you think this would be okay?

they are not copper from new!

early are plain rusty steel , later are plastic!

1.9 and 2.1 are different

I have a couple for Busfest , £15 each!

if you do by used make sure EVERY hole is unblocked , even the plastic ones have a tendancy to block , making it impossible to bleed the cooling system!

Hi, thanks for the reply. Maybe mine is steel, thinking about it I think i've assumed it would be copper without any real inspection  .

So are the ones your offering metal of plastic? And do you have one to fit a 1.9 DG?

If so I'd be happy to give you the cash at Busfest :ok
