i have a aaz engine with a leaking rocker cover, which i am sure is from the 1.6td ( it has the raised hump / wotever on it ) , am i correct in thinking that i would be able to put the correct aaz cover on insted ? the engine is in a panel van that was converted by previous owners .

Yes, as lomg as you have the extended studs through the 3 cam bearing housings required. Strange, as most AAZ heads don't have the holes to fit the JX camcover, I thought, though a recent VEGE refurb head does have.

Have you tried just changing the gasket and torqueing down evenly and gently, without overtightening? Or has the camcover been distorted?

hi harryman, not sure if its distorted or what,not tried just the gasket yet, was just gathering info before i attack it, will try that first and see what happens. the engine supposedly had a rebuild not too long ago so that could be why its got that cover ?? who knows. i thought it was strange too. do you reckon i would be better keeping the 1.6 cover then,with the raised bump ? many thanx

Yes I do, if its installed canted over at 50 odd degrees, that breather was obviously designed for it, where I'm starting to think the AAZ one 'might' allow oil through the separator when tonking it around right handers. Still not quite sure though.

Just go gently on those nuts, do up gently from middle ones outwards and then take to 10 Nm (7 ft-lbf), (medium pull on 6" spanner). Most people use a good quality gasket liquid as insurance on degreased surfaces. Watch the gasket doesn't slip out of position.

Just had the rocker gaskets changed during an oil change recently as they were leaking a bit and I did not want to get the dreaded oil in the heater smell.

When driving home I had to stop as I couldn't see for the oil coming through the vents.

Gasket has slipped, even though it was up on a ramp and had good access.

Smells rotten still
