pinion shaft groved nut tool

Hi all,i'm in the process of making [or have made] a tool to undo the groved on the front diff pinion shaft so I can replace the speedo drive gear for an 8 toothed one that suits my tires.
Anyone made one,any tips?

Thanks Aidan,do you think a "c" spanner would do [155ft lb though!!].

That's just acting as the stop, you need to rotate the pinion shaft by 155, via the input shaft via the vc as close as, and you are only un and relocking a cold one

Hi Aidan,i've got a vc to rotate the pinion,did you strip the vc your using or weld it up?

use the vc as is with the nose cone fitted using 24mm socket to drive the nut on the end to drive the vc to drive the pinion shaft, as long as you can fashion something to hold the locknut against the inside of the case yoyu can do it without removing the pinion from the diff case I reckon
I have half the tool and made the other from the centre of a vc, but that's for shaft out rebuild with new pinion bearing
you should be able to undo old locknut with a blunt instrument once tab released

Cheers,I'll have to find a way of turning the drive flange anti clockwise (if I use the 24mm nut it will come undone!!).
I have to get it all worked out before I take the diff out as I can't pop down the shop for odds n sods!

bah humbug of course the tool reverses it for the bench
without taking it out and having the tools drift off and on is only choice then (actually I have an idea to check ?)

well i'm going to sort out something using the yoke from a spare propshaft rubber damping donut!
