Cam Belt Pulleys

Hi All - just changed our Cam Belt & Cover on our 1.6 TD jx - the original problem was that the belt had slipped & worn against the cam belt cover - when replacing we noticed that the 2 top pulleys were not quite in line running a straight edge across both showed about 1mm gap on inside edge of right hand pulley (as you look at the engine)
Have minimalised it best we can manually but anyone know what would cause the pulleys to go out of line in the 1st place & what would be a more permanent fix Please - think that the belt is slowly on the move again
Thanks Eugene

Try loosening the three nuts holding the front of the pump [one is got at through the pump gear] and push the pump down to see if the gear comes into line.
Post back with results.
Ta.

Dave Friday could be close. I seem to remember there was a workshop bulletin about realigning pump when belt runs out.

hi all and thanx for replies, did a lot of undoing the bolts on the pump pushing down and tightening up and i think its improved slightly.if i check belt and see a clear line of pulley wheel teeth drive 4 or 5 mile the belt is right on the end of the pulley but has gone no further, could it have settled in this position and there is no belt mark on the new cover.how would i be able to tell if 1 of the pulleys was on back 2 front is there any tell tale signs. how far would i need to drive to establish if the belt was going to stay where it is now. was planning a trip to the coast friday but beginning to develop a trust issue. thanks again for advice much appreciated i can assure you, cheers eugene :?

Well I don't know of course! you could try moving the cradle [bracket?] that the pump sits in,undo the bolts that fix it to the engine block a bit.
how tight is the cam belt?

yeah realise that just have to stop and check on a regular basis. i think i should be able to undo and move the cradle dont think belt is tight enough to stop that so i'll give it a go.fingers crossed. thanx again eugene
