Clunk noise on start up

When the van starts, ( as in starting the engine ) something goes kind of clunk/bang.
Once only.
Not a backfire.
Any ideas please ?
Should i be checking the starter motor?
If so, for what ?
Thanks for help.

Could be exhaust hitting body due to weak engine mounts. Either way I'd try and get a good look whilst someone else fires it up.

Thanks.
It has a recently fitted stainless exhaust from the last ownership.
Maybe it needs some slight fitting adjustment................

Could be! My Morris Minor made a clunking noise on start-up. I thought it might be a loose starter motor but it was the actual body of the starter. I tightened up the two long screws holding it all together and it's fine now. Have a good look and pull the starter to see if it has worked loose.

Check those engine mountings.....not just visually as the weight of the engine pushes them together so they look ok....jack up the engine towards the rear (use a block of wood so you don't damage anything) and look to see if the mountings are still bonded to the rubbers.
