Buying a t25

Hullo all, I'm sure this subject has been covered countless times, but I have a couple of questions about a T25 I'm off to look at this week. I'd appreciate any help with them if possible..
The van has the standard 1.6d engine. Now from what I've read these are slow, painfully so - is this the case? Are they not usable on A-roads even?
Also, the van had a new head from the receipts included. The van has supposedly only done 20ish k (with MOTs to back up), so what would have necessitated that so soon? The cambelt was obviously replaced then but what is the ormal interval for a belt?
I'd appreciate any help or advice. I'm no stranger to older cars but haven't had experience with T25s before.
Ta very much

They are usable on all roads.Just make sure your always going downhill.

Seriously though, they can struggle up big hills, but you will get to the top eventually.

Thanks folks, much appreciated. Pretty much confirms what I thought then about speed
Fortunately it'd be used for trips to the coast and ovenight stays with my wife and little daughter. I'd not be using it daily.
Does anyone know how often the cambelt needs changing?
Thanks again.

Thanks matey
This one wa done in 2006, but not many miles ago - certainly not 50k. I'm guessing it'll still need to be done though?
Is it a big job on the 1.6d? Are they interference engines?

forget 2006 , you really have no proof it was done then ?? yes do it for what it costs, and yep they hit each other inside lol, age is as important as mileage

I'd change it as a matter of course anyway oddnumber, just for your piece of mind
I'm sure someone will be along to confirm as to what to expect when changing it.

Thanks chaps
Ive just had a quote from a local independent for £266 to change the cambelt. Does this sound about right?
