Hi, My first post here. I own a 1978 T25 1.9 petrol. It is an Trident Auto Sleeper and in pretty good nick I believe. I bought it in March and took it to a VW specialist garage near Worthing to give it a once over and a full service and MOT before a trip to Devon. Well having broken down in Devon and found the rotor arm was burnt out and not checked in my "Full service and check over", the pipe into the inlet manifold popped out and since then had numerous problems with fuel blokages etc I am wondering if there is another garage/mechanic nearer to me where I can take my van to get it sorted.

I am not sure but the fuel tank may be full of debris, how easy is it to remove and clean out the fuel tank yourself? There is an inline filter but that does not seem to help.

I love my van and so do the kids but if it is not reliable at all then it will have to go.... HELP!

Checking the basics before a trip should be done by you.
Leaving it to someone else is just daft.
If you can't do it then I would suggest it goes.
Your fuel system is over twenty years old, it needs maintenance and some renewal, particularly the fuel lines.

But FYI, clean fast flowing fuel is dealt with by the fuel filter.
Why would you remove the tank? all you need to do is change a £1.50 filter.
Once done, I would have the carb cleaned.

fuel delivery is dealt with by the fuel pump.
remove the outlet pipe and point it into a jar
turn the engine over with the rotor arm out
it should give healthy squirts of fuel
If it doesn't then either the pump is worn out or the pump pushrod is worn out...or both!
