water bottle filling

I am (still) in the process of fitting a new interior to my camper.
My current problem is in filling the water tank. I have a 25l tank and a submergible whale pump. I was going to fit an external filler cap with a y piece to fill the tank and a one way valve (normally used for petrol).
Is this a good way of filling/ making use of what i have?
