Rad fan blowing fuses on 2.1DJ

Hi,
My rad fan was blowing the slow speed 30A fuse and making horrible noises.
To find current draw I took fuse out of fusebox and put a wire across the terminals. Stuck a clamp ammeter around wire and measured a consistent 50A! Checked earth and remade a dedicated one for the rad fan.

Swapped fan (and rad while I was at it), no more noise but 30A fan still blowing. This time measured 28A consistently, but suspect it must be drawing just over 30A at spin up. Stuck a 35A fuse it and it works. Not ideal.

Curiously I tested the replacement fan and new rad on the bench before fitting and it drew 24A, why would it draw more when in the van?

Can someone test their fan's current draw for me? Put a wire across instead of the fuse, disconnect thermoswitch and short it on 1&2 to get the slow speed fan. You'll need an ammeter, possible a clamp one.

If mine is usual I'll go looking for good quality slow break fuses at 30A. If not, what do you suggest?

Let me know.
