I'm looking for pictures of vans with colour-matched bumpers. My white van is going in for some metalwork on the roof, and I'll be getting the whole roof repainted and the fibreglass pop top painted to match. My rear bumper seems to be a new replacement that's never been painted, so I'm toying with the idea of getting it, and the front bumper, painted to match the rest of the van, while the spray gun is out. I'm not convinced it would look any good though, so I thought I'd see if anyone has done this, especially with a white van. I guess I'd leave the plastic end caps black, as I doubt they'd take a paint successfully.

Hehe - I'm not surprised that's the bit of my post that caught your eye. I'll post some 'before' pictures, and if I can stomach it, some 'during' and 'after' pictures too. The planned work is to replace the metal where the rivets in the hinges pulled through (due to a hinge that jammed open), but I must admit I'm a little worried about what we'll find when we cut out the old hinge areas. Did you say you made a spare set of gutters?

i have a full set of lovely new gutters in 16g (1,5), but they are the deep ones,can soon get some of the shallower ones pressed up
yes i think we are all going to be seeing a lot more of roof rots and need to strat planning repairs ,its an area that you only really need/want to be doing once right..

From the outside my gutters look ok, but who knows what we'll find once we start cutting. I'm optimistic that we've caught it in good time, but realistic enough to know that may not be the case. How much difference is there between 'deep' and 'shallow' gutters?

And back to the topic of the thread - I've seen a few colour-coded bumpers over at http://www.volkswagent25.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, and I'm not totally put off. No white ones yet though. Anybody?

these gutters are 3/4" deep,
back to bumpers, well the large ones including the sideplanks can be any colour and work but i have yet to see a van with std steel bumpers that have been colour dis-co-ordinated and look anything but wrong, especially when the end caps are done as well, its just nasty, ..chrome looks good but not on all vans,better suited to pop/dayvans etc

I think you're right. I might give the rustoleum a go, in black, on the back bumper. This is an area I tend to stand on to pack away the pop-top canvas before latching the roof down, so on reflection I don't think white would be a good idea.

im going to apply some of the stuff i used on the steps on the mallywagon to do the top of my rear bumper, very hard wearing and very non slip and its BLACK....

Took a first look at the roof around one of the corroded pop-top hinges today - happy to say, having followed the Voltswagon thread, that the rot seems to be no worse than can be seen from the outside. I should be able to get away with localised repairs

This is the sight after removing the pop-top. This is the hinge second-from-front above the offside door. 30 years of grime under there, as it's an area that's completely inaccessible with the pop-top canvas in place.

Once it's all repaired we're going to mount the hinges a few millimetres higher, and I think I'll then leave off the rubber seal around the hinge areas at least, maybe all the way along the hinge side. With the original design the hinges sit in the gutter, and the rubber seal stuffs the gutter up completely, especially when the pop-top's up, making it impossible to clean the gutter and meaning that water sits in there and can't drain away. The seal isn't really a 'seal' anyway - it doesn't need to keep the weather out since the roof canvas should be watertight - it's just a cushion, and since the hinges will stop the fibreglass touching the metal roof anyway the cushion isn't needed that side. I might have to paint a black 'mock cushion' onto the fibreglass edge though, for aesthetic purposes.

I still can't find the name of this product for covering the footwell - I'm sure you had a post about it but the one above just has pics.

will have a dig ouit later for you , its 1 pack so easier than the 2 pack,about £16 IIRC and does about 1 1/2 yds single coat
