temp gauge reading

Have 87 1.9 petrol water cooled dg.

Prior to temp sender failing, temp gauge needle used to move to 12 o'clock position and stay there with normal driving.

Replaced failed temp sender and now "normal " position is reading towards max temp and stays there under normal driving.

I can live with this if have to but would appreciate any advice on how to get it back to the regular position.

Many thanks

Sure that you haven't put a switch in instead of a sensor? :D

Definately temp sender +125 deg. probably not original VW part. Got it from JK. Would a small difference in manufacture spec result in different output or does the voltage stabiliser unit deal with that ?
If anyone knows what the readings should be at cold and normal in millvolts I could test

cheers

Why buy from Just Krappers ???- there have been enough posts about the quality of their products.

Check it's resistance against the old one - if it's the same you have a different problem. I don't have one to check what it should be - someone else may be able to come up with the required info.

T3 temp gauge sender should be something like this:

Temp Ohms
20 1150
30 750
40 513
50 361
60 269
70 199
80 150
90 118
100 90
