Just wondering what the consensus is on thermal insulation behind the panels. I took a rear panel out the other day with a view to fitting a seat belt, and also to check the state of the seams and waxoyl protection. As it's been a camper from new (a viking conversion) I was quite surprised there was no thermal insulation in the panel.

So what do people recommend? Is the insulation a good thing, or does it become a moisture trap for condensation? What material do people use?

I used thermo wrap to line the van followed by a plastic sheet membrane to protect from condensation. There's some info in the wiki about different options that I found very useful. I'll let you know in five years how it's held up

Thanks Eric - I'm new here and still forgetting to check the excellent wiki before posting! There's a lot of good info there I agree.

Hi Chris, I had my panels waxoyled & a foil faced bubble substrate put in before the interior - I think you can pick up the substrate cheap from b&q. Here's a link to my thread.

If you want extra warmth, b&q also do an insulation made from recycled plastic bottles (it won't hold water like the old fashioned stuff) I've used this with the thermo wrap and its made a huge difference

Thanks folks - looks like a trip to B&Q is in order. Something to keep me busy while my van's away having the roof and pop-top refurbished.
