1.9 Petrol engine - sluggish and cutting out

Hi

I have a 1988 Holdsworth Conversion with a 1.9 DG petrol engine. It has suddenly started losing power and cutting out. This is surprising as a few weeks ago we had a 350 mile round trip to the Yorkshire coast with no problems at all. It also had its service and MOT at the beginning of July.

Tonight I fitted a new fuel filter and took it out for a quick spin. It is now 65-70% better – it did not cut out at traffic lights and junctions but it is still sluggish. I would not trust it for a longer journey.

I tried the cheapest solution and it nearly worked! What next?

Is there still a possibility of fuel contamination? Do I need to look at the carburetor or fuel pump?

Thanks.

If its a pierburg card they have an extra fuel filter cone in the fuel inlet. Believe the technique for removing it is delicately using a screw thread. Once removed, clean and reinstate.

Could be responsible for that other 35%.
