1.9 caravelle engine running

Hello there i have acquired a 1989 1.9 watercooled caravelle with single weber carb and standard distributer ignition system and i have just got it running after reading the wicki and trawling this excellent forum which has been greaat help to a new vw owner like me. Before my question here is what i have done to get it running:
New plugs, leads, rotor arm and hall sensor solved cutting out when warm
Replaced fuel pipe and single fuel filter to try to fix lack of power previous long term owner reported. He had already replaced fuel pump before van sat for 2 years unused before i got it.
Checked pump rod length (ok) and replaced all vacuum hoses and checked for vacuum leaks (none)
Blew through all carb jets and passages to fix lack of power and hesitation (seems to have worked)
I couldnt have done any of this without this forum which has been a goldmine of info. the van now runs at 30mph in fifth gear and slowly gets up to 55 60 mph on dual carriageway. It feels about as fast as a series land rover with the 2.25 petrol engine, i this about right or should it have more pull? I know the weber has a bad reputation and if this is all i can live with it until i can source a second hand pierburg, or is their something else i have missed? As this is the only t25 i have driven it is hard to tell.....
Last question, if i lpg it presumably the carb is irrelevent when running on gas. Does anyone here run a single weber on lpg?
Thanks for a great forum and wicki.
