Hello, and first we must, in the customary and polite fashion, introduce ourselves. We are Club 80-90 and we live all over the place. We have been into T25 vans of all types for a long time. We do a lot of camping and similar activities and hope perhaps to meet you at a campsite or maybe a VW show some time in the future. We do have a couple of questions of course as all T25 owners do, like, where in the world are you ? and, do you plan doing a lot of camping, or is yours a work van ?
Re the temperature LED and earths. Yes it is quite likely to be an earth issue. That LED is controlled by a thing that looks like a relay (but isn't). It is numbered 42 or 43 (the same thing) on the main fuse / relay board. That little box (circuit) is pretty voltage sensitive and any variation on the designed voltage to or from it will cause the led to flash. The 2 usual causes are the "earth crown" which is behind the left hand side of the fuse box and looks, err like a "crown". Always worth getting good access to that and removing the (many) connections and the retaining bolt and thoroughly cleaning the whole thing up.
The other place to look is the multi pin connector under the speedo, accessed by looking up under the right hand side of the dash, near where your right knee is. pull the plug / socket apart but be careful when doing this and cleaning it as the contacts in there can be a bit fragile. A gentle rub with a dry nylon pan sponge thingy is good. Then a smear of Vaseline and re-assemble.
Aside = that led will also start flashing if you coolant level is too low. There is a 2 pronged sensor in the top of the left hand white tank in the engine bay to monitor this. Also, by the way, that l/h tank should ALWAYS be full to the brim, the other tank behind the number plate flap should
with the engine cold, be about half full.
Re the fan. Some folk fit an override switch in case they are away from home and the thermo switch (on the radiator) fails, which whilst not common, certainly has been known to happen.
That should help
By the way, have you found our "wiki" knowledge base yet ?
If not there is a link to it at the top left of every page on here
