Ive been pricing up reconditioned engines and conversions now for a couple of weeks. I was just about to commit to a straight swap as the Subaru conversion supplied and fitted was going to cost £5000

Now, ive recently been offered a 2.2turbo 250+ hp Subaru impresa for £2000 (whole car) now im thinking if i brought in and stripped it id get more than that for the parts. Then id only have to pay to get the engine fitted.

I need a mechanic who would be willing to do this conversion using a donor car.

I've seen their work on Splitties & the look spot on. Never used them myself, but I do know that they have also done a T25/T3.

Where abouts are you? My mate in Salisbury would do it. He's a s#!t hot fabricator, welder, restorer, mechanic and put a Subaru motor in a 57 split to.

Im in wolverhampton, doesn't have to be local tho. Just a reasonable price. Ive made a few inquires, in theory it makes sense to do the swap.

Just waiting for a few prices from these, looks the business. Hopefully going to get it booked in for either a conversion or a full engine re build, painted up and polished. Thanks for the link, not far from me either.

what sort of prices are you budgeting for...

No probs, have seen their work in the flesh on Splitties & also follow them on Faceache, where they have posted up pics of a US import Westy T3. If my engine ever goes 'pop' I would look to go Scooby, so would be interested to see how you get on. Keep us posted!

They would do it with a donna car, but its having the cash upfront to do it and the time to strip it after. I like there work on the vw engines too. They look really smart cleaned up and painted.

I chickened out of the Subaru conversion, the unknown costs were starting to scare me. He wasn't sure if my wheels/suspension could Handel the power and may need upgrading and labour could be between 600 and 1500 depending on complications.

So ive booked into EliteVW for a fully reconditioned 2.0l air cooled, estimated cost £1700 reliability here i come

Could you give me the details of your mate in Salisbury. My van's original engine has just gone kaput at my folks house in Salisbury. I was considering converting - this could work well!

do it yourself and save loads of cash plus ge t o know your van a lot better. handy to know exactly where everything on the install is and how it works. Im no mechanic and just done a scooby conversion. Actually really enjoyed it. Rjes give good instructions with there kits so get on it
