Hi, I've just come back fro Devon/ Wales and my fridge has been misbehaving. This is the first time I've used it camping. The gas is not connected yet but it has been connected to mains when parked.

My problem is when driving the 12v does not appear to be working. I know it did before I fitted it but now nothing - no coldness, no current draw.
I think its a RM123E with auto ignition.
First thing is to check I'm using it right. I have the manual but it isn't clear (or I'm being dumb) on how the 12v works. I think the switch should be in the off position (otherwise the auto igniter constantly sparks). The manual says to turn off 12v before connecting mains but doesn't say how. It appears to work fine on 240v mains. I have checked the fuse (10a).

Anyone have any ideas?

As a side note, how long do these fridges stay cold if left unopend?

Hi - I have the RM122 fridge which looks to operate slightly different and has an additional three-position switch that is either a) Off, b) on 12v, c) on Mains that we use to select which electrical source to use.

It looks like your fridge does not have this switch and that if the 12v wire to the fridge is live then it will be cooling the fridge; and also if 240v to the fridge is live then that will be cooling the fridge.

You are right to say that the gas ignitor switch should be off - as all that does is supply a spark to the gas supply to light it; so if your not using gas then you need to have that switch off (or it will flash to show that it is continually 'sparking' to try to light the (turned off) gas).

Maybe someone who has that fridge can comment but it looks like you have to connect/disconnect the 12v or 240v to the fridge manually to get it to work (perhaps using a switch/relay) .... usually these vans have a relay that provides 12v to the fridge only when the engine is running ... that would be your best option.

School boy error on this. Power lead had not been stripped when put in the connector block. Insulation insulates really well!!

Now just to get the gas to keep fridge at 4C
