Doom.... New engine needed

After a trip to a local specialist the prognosis for the 2.0 CU Aircooled engine in our T25 is not great.

Basically, a full rebuild is required.

This is not good news for our holiday in 12 days.

So.... Where is the best place to get a new 2.0 CU Aircooled engine?

Ideally for speed and ease of fitting int will have to be turn key. Ideally with some sort of guarantee.

There's one on eBay now at £370 but there's no guarantee that is any better.

I need help and fast.

I've been googling for a few days in case this news came up but have not had much luck on anything under £2000.

Thanks in advance for any help.

£1700 sounds better than £2000.

He said he wouldn't drive it any distance.

Definitely not a two week holiday in France!

Ive phoned loads of places, they are the cheapest I've found. Not sure how good there engines are, i need to do some more research before i commit. Vwspares said £2500 they have a good reputation. Or nearlly £3000 for one from justkampets. VolksMagic, and my local garage said they would recon my own engine for £2000 defiantly worth phoning around, looking through past topics on here for the best value deal

At that price it's barely the price of the return surcharge on the engine, got to be worth considering, if it lasts a year it would still give you more spending money on your holiday :ok

P.S. no I'm not selling it, nothing to do with me old chap

By he time the auction has finished in three days time it will be more than that and you still have to get it delivered and fitted and you only have 12 days, thats tight and still an unknown engine.

Also fiting costs can be hundreds of pounds unless you know somebody so £1700 at eliteVw with collection and fitting does not sound too bad to me.

I'm going to go for the eBay one, and recondition the old one myself over winter.

It comes with exhaust (I'm guessing you can never have too many of these), and heat exchangers (mine have also been found to be knackered).

So I'm going to roll the dice. If I can get "one more holiday" out of it, then its one more holiday than the one I've got.

Plus.... It's realistically the only way I can get the van moving and through the MOT in 12 days, as its "plug and play".

If this comes off, I'm the king of the world.

That's good.

Is that £1700 and you keep your old engine?

Website reads £1050, with an exchange of your old unit.

I am also very excited about having the opportunity to take apart, recondition, and degrease, and shine up my old block.

He's only an hour away, and although I reckon I could in/out it myself. I've got the expert lined up to fit in the job, as a favour.

Playing it safe has never been my strong point. Hence probably the reason I'm in this situation now.

P.S.

It's also the only way I'm going to learn instead of tickling and tweaking it. Maybe I'll actually be able to give some advice to others at some point. I really would like to give back, as so many on here have helped me already.

It was 1700 and they had my old engine, that included the fitting and £250 was to collect the van from Wolverhampton (about 3 hrs away) they can deliver an engine to you for around £50 if you wanted to do it yourself.

That doesn't add up with their website prices?

Could you break it down?

I think you are making the right call.....go and see ...hear it running.

Get it in the back of a tranny....and bung it in. :ok

1700 to 2000 is a lot of brass.
