I have fitted a 100a split charge relay kit that was recommended on here and I have used the alternator charge light wire as the trigger as it says in the instructions but when van is running the light is staying on what have I done wrong?
Thanks dave

You may not have done anything wrong. The split charge relay imposes a small load on the "warning light" output of the alternator and this always results in having to raise the revs a bit to get the light to go out. (That's what I have at present, and that is the disadvantage of this method of control). Maybe your larger relay just puts too much load on.
You should check that the regulator/brush pack on the alternator hasn't got worn brushes, as the extra load mentioned above might be the last straw if they are wearing out.
If it's still a problem, there is another method of control which works OK. You can connect the + side of the relay to the ignition circuit, and the - side to the red/black trigger wire on the starter solenoid. This is great if your relay is in the engine compartment, but not so handy if it is under one of the front seats.
