hi,just got my first van.its a 1990 t25 1.9 petrol.it has a few problems!
first one is that when you start it,you have to turn the key back a bit to stop the starter as the spring is gone.this may seem like a daft question but is the spring in the ignition barrel or the ignition switch?just so i know what to get before i take the whole thing apart

No spring inside the switch on mine - replaced it yesterday and dismantled the old one. The key sprang back in the barrel alone still therefore I surmised that the spring is in the barrel!
See!

Oldiebut goodie....pretty sure when you drive the switch with a flat blade screwdriver it does have a spring back mechanism on the last position...
I suppose it could be both but this issue is more commonly the switch itself.

Nope - got it in my hand at the moment - definitely no spring!
If you look at the pic above there is no place for a spring either.
