High idling and second turn starting.

Hi all.

Just in from another 4 hour stint on the van.

Windscreen surround primed and ready for paint.

Moving it up and down the drive and driving it to the welder yesterday I noticed two things (which also my friend noticed too whilst prepping it).

1. Engine idles high. Carbs have been out and rebuilt. But it still idles high. However... Today.... It seems to be prefect. Wierd. Any ideas? My friend who welded my windscreen surround and wheel arch yesterday has had these engines in his planes (yes....planes. He moved on from cars about 10 years ago and never looked back!) said that
he thought it was the auto choke sticking. But he didn't have time to look it over.

2. The van starts up on the second try or turn of the key. It only starts first time when its HOT. Either a hot day or a the engine is hot. Again any ideas?

I could look through the Haynes manual I guess, but as I've said on another thread I find the advice and experience on here far more valuable and to the point.

Plus I'm hoping to go away in it with my family next week, so would like to be "sure" of its reliability.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers!!
