Metal thermostat housing temp sender.

I have an ex syncro 2.1 engine in my 2wd.
The original engine was an 86 1.9 DG with a plastic thermostat housing.
when the engine was transplanted I kept the metal housing and adapted the two original sender wires to just the one wire required
my question is this.
Are the single wire temp senders compatible with the DG gauge?

If your talking about the dash water temp gauge sender then it should be the same as I dg one. Ie an m10x1.0 threaded sender.

Late DG engines had plastic housings and a clip-in sender.
I want to know if the theaded type have the same resistance values as the clip in type
Or...
If the dash gauge is the same in a 2.1 syncro as a 1.9 Dg

Kev, our syncro was built as a 1.9 DG, so had (and has) the single wire temp sender.
FWIW, had been retrofitted with a tacho dash by prev. owner (C spec 'velle, poverty spec interior and telltale hole for absent odo trip button) Temp gauge behaves as it should i.e in hot weather the needle gets across to the other side of the led and then the rad fan comes on at speed 1. Never had speed 2! I suppose this passes for correct indication & operation.
ETKA says...for 1986 syncro, early version (with tacho) same as diesel, 255 919 511; model break at 24L 030 000 which then has ...511 suffix A part.
If no tacho (clock or crosswires) then ...511B early and diesel, same model break as above then ...511C
Hope this helps.

OK thanks
reason for the question is the gauge reads annoyingly (OCD) just on, after the led, during normal temps.
When the clip-in sender was used it was, just on, before.
I guess I just have to get used to it
or junk the metal housing

I had a similar problem when using the tdi sender for my gauge. I got around it by fitting a hose connector onto the heater hose (diesel) Baxter sells one with purpose built fitting for a clip in sender. I then fitted a clip in sender, gauge reads spot on now.

Hi,
Sorry to bring this up again, but really struggling to come to a conclusion on my temp gauges.
In summary, my syncro had a 2wd engine dropped in it with a plastic t-stat holder, i'm not sure if my dials are for a syncro or 2wd as they have been changed.
My temp gauge only used to reach a quater, my fuel gauge works fine. I'm confused on the sensors, where they all are and how to diagnose.
Question;
Can I just fit the sender pipe to my system?
If so, where would it go? Does a sensor just screw in? Which sensor would i need, there's different ones
I assume I just run a wire from the new sensor to my original gauge or my aftermarket one..
I'm going to be dropping my coolant very soon, so thinking I can do it all then.

Maybe an idea to ask in syncro section about the differences in the plumbing? Aidan will set you right as one of the few WBX syncro faithful

good point, I'm just not ready to tackle to re-plumbing yet, don't want to make a hash of it.
I know the previous owner had it at syncrospares to get the 2wd system plumbed in properly, but the gauge never got up to half way and now it has stopped completely.
I'll open a new thread.

it's probably a wiring or a sender issue as the gauges are the same whether 2wd or syncro so I'd be investigating that first before trying to change anything or add anything into the system

Thanks Aidan, I might give that a go.
I just thought the syncro had extra senders? I was worried the wirring mod needed for a metal t-stat housing had been changed to suit my 2wd cooling set up.
There seems to be loads of sensors / senders and one says "temp 2 sender syncro)".
I might have a play around later today and see if I can figure out what mine has.
