Never a pleasant or easy job but I was wondering what methods other people use. Myself, I'll drill them out with a quality 6mm bit and then part the 2 skins with a chisel. Yet to purchase the core style bit which is labelled as a removal tool - they look as though they'd be slow in my opinions, what do others think? Cheers.

There is a special little tool calle a .. Zip cutter.. Sykes picavant used to do ... Expect others do them, it's a little drill with teeth!!!!

The correct and incredibly efficacious tool is a cobalt spot weld removal bit, available in 6mm and 8mm as well as long and short versions.
Mine's 4 years old and still A OK, I even use them for drilling panels for spotting onto with the MIG

Perhaps same as what you're calling a core drill...

there are loads out there ,many are described as quality etc etc . lets have less of the vacuous glib sales patter and go for a good brand that said i do go through a few also use the 6mm as this has lots of uses and of course makes a sm,aller hole,
one thing these bits in common with most are that they dont like to slip, that is they need to be cutting rather than spinning on the surface so maybe a slower speed and keep pressure on

As with all metal cutting, there is a correct feed and surface speed so pressure to get it cutting keeps speed down or use speed control trigger.

A simple centre punch /centre pop in middle of each spot helps a lot. Accurate centreing reduces need for chiselling and distortion. PPPPPP!
