hi all,

my battery has given up the ghost, it turns out its not the right one anyway.

i've checked prices etc at GSF, it is coming up with a 063 type battery i need. However, there seems to be a differnce of opinion, a few places have said that won't be big enough.

can anyone clarify please?

i've a 1981 16ooCT Aircooled.

Just replaced my battery in a 1900 air cooled petrol. 1980 it took a HSB010 which was is the correct one for the age and model (Halfords). It was nearly double the size of the battery in the van when i brought it. Van starts lovely every time now, no more problems with hot starts. Worth ever penny of £114

If you go to any Halfords they have all the T25 models and battery size required in a folder next to the batteries. Mine completely fills the space under the seat. Very big battery.

yeah, the 063 just doesn't seem right. the dead battery fits in nice, the 063 is way smaller. ATS said i needed a 100.

Escapes me why ANYONE would get their battery from Halfords - they're as expensive as their oil - well, unless it was Sunday and you were that desperate.

Euro Car Parts generally do the best deal and know the right size too. My local one was happy to pop out with a tape measure to ensure it would fit ok and was half the price of a Halfords one.

well if i go for the 063 it'll be circa 40 quid with our discount. just looks physically too small, i don't have the money to waste / risk.

063 is small. Code 100 is recommended size.

To be fair, it was a sunday and i was desperate. Broke down, van wouldn't start. Got a five year guarantee tho.

Standard fit from the factory was an 063 battery you only really need a larger one if you are running a lot of things off the starter battery when the engine is not running then you would be better off fitting a leisure battery.

It's the CCA that matters.. It's just a starting battery; nothing else.

065 & 075 seem to be the 'standard fitment in my searches, both are fine but as some users prefer a little more capacity to give them increased reserve, Type 100 is popular.
Do you need it....debateable but definately can't hurt....when will it help....engine off running the stereo for long periods perhaps or on the coldest of starts where all batteries struggle.

You just need to weigh up the extra cost and whether it's worth it to you.

i needed a quick replacement, got a 100 from the local scrapper, £20. its also off a diesel, starts like a dreeeaamm now. fits perfect in the compartment, job done.

Result! Code 100's are usually 70 -72ah with substantial cold cranking capabilities. I'm with you on not paying full price but I use a different source by going to my local battery shop and buying their 'tested' returns. I paid £25.00 for my last lucas code 100 which was returned flat by a customer as faulty at 2 months old but charged up and tested as perfect (he obviously had a drain elsewhere).
I also picked up a 110ah leisure with a similar history for £30.00 last year....also fully charged and checked.
