3-way fridge shenanigans

Fitted new 240v heating element for 3 way fridge yesterday after it failed last week, and also new (quieter) 12v fan. Also cleaned out the gas burner which has never worked and left on test last night. Noticed fan wasn't running this morning but fridge had got down to -1 with thermostat placed on the aluminium fins. Switched the wires on the fan and it came on straight away and now ive left it on test with the 240v selected to see what it gets down to. Thermostat reads +5 at the moment after about 4 hours cooling from 29 degrees. Thermostat placed in center of fridge this time. Love the way you learn something new about your van every time you have a play with it. Noticed what looks like a hole in the bottom left hand corner of the fridge and then it dawned on me after two years its a viewing port for the pilot light...love it.

All sounds good.
I'm guessing this is the original Electrolux 184 ? so non compressor 'Absorption' type fridge so as a rough guide can only lower ambient temperatures by about 20C.
These fridges have a thermo switch screwed onto the top fin so the fan generally only works when it gets pretty hot......I don't hear mine unless it's 25C plus outside and the sun hits the fridge side of the van.

Yes Martin, it is a 184.....happily working in all three modes at the moment. Looking forward to getting away next week to give it a proper test!
