Shocking!

My Van just failed it's MOT on a knackered rear shock, which I knew was gonna happen. Anyway, spoke to my mechanic and he said they've had a nightmare trying to get a replacement. Ended up ordering from Germany!
Thought I,d have a sniff about myself and sure enough there seems to be a national shortage!
Anyone know why this has occurred?

You must not of sniffed hard enough.

Did you try brickwerks?

That begs the question why didn't you replace it before putting it in for the MoT?
I have just replaced mine front and rear - no problem getting them, plenty to chose from. What do you mean 'there is a national shortage'?

Maybe just suppliers in the Devon area then. Forget the national bit!
Why didn't I replace it before putting it in for the MOT? Cos, unfortunately I have to work and do family stuff! As such, I accept that I will pay someone else to do it.

1/2 hr. job! Jack up, wheel off, remove two bolts, remove shock, fit new shock, replace two bolts etc. Neither difficult nor time consuming. I would rather my money went to my family rather than to a mechanic for a simple job.

Ok but you are a member of a very good forum with a wealth of information
You could have had the parts shipped straight to the fitter... After finding out where to get them from..
Being lied to is not part of the deal with your garage.

I appreciate the encouragement and advice and at various times I have worked on my own vehicles. However, now is just not one of those times, life is at one of those hectic phases right now. I trust my local garage and have a good relationship with them, they'll get the job done, I'll get my van back, happy days!
