Just got my Electrolux fridge working on 12v.......I'm a bit nervous due to the original fuse holder being slightly melted/brown. Anyway the wire and relay are quite warm in use.
is this due to the fridge drawing big amps when starting up, read somewhere that they can pull as much as 90 amps on start up!.......but as you know, not everything on forums is true!
Any ideas?.....

12A max depending upon the element fitted. I would use 20A wiring and fuse to suit to negate voltage drop, but 16A will suffice on a short run. Sounds like your wiring is under size.
90A - someone is pulling your plonker!

Ta......90A did seem a tad high......like I said, best not to believe everything on forums!
Wiring is original Holdsworth Conversion, but did have my suspicions about size.......I also wondered whether a dodgy relay may cause this, as it did spark when I was fiddling earlier.......
Time for a new one and check other connections I reckon...... as well as look at sizing.

I think you might be confusing the fridge and the leisure battery regarding start up currents.

There's an electrical wiring diagram for a Holdsworth Villa in the wiki; chances are yours will be much the same

To give you some idea both my Electrolux RM112 fridges pull 8A for a few seconds while the element is heating up then run at 6.5A

Ta ......interesting. Altho the Variety is a bit more basic.....i.e no zig unit.
Gonna replace the relay, to see if the problem lies there........then check the wiring back to the fridge.
