engine options

Hi,
Looking for some advice for a friend. He has aquired three T25's in fairly poor condition and is looking to make one good one for long distance driving trips. On the mechanical side the decision is what to do with the three different powerplants:
A late low mileage Aircooled with good box.
A 91 2.1 injection petrol in fair condition with good box.
A late 80's diesel with shot box.

The initial thought was to mate the diesel to the box from the 2.1 injection and sell the rest to fund the project. Is this a possible conversion, do we need to swap over the bellhousing on the box? I understand parts of the loom and fuel system will need to be swapped.
Or do we fix up the 2.1 and use that?
Thanks for any help
Jon

You say it's for long distances, these are thirsty beasts. Would your friend have the funds to go 2.1 petrol then LPG it?

For long distance work I'd vote for the above (2.1 on lpg), but I am biased ;-)
