I have a AAZ in my Panel van but it is a bit tired so was thinking of replacing it. I had a thought that it may be better to fit a 1.9 TDI instead. Does anyone know if the TDI will fit on the same engine bar set-up etc that is in for the AAZ. If so are there other changes to be made?

As usual it depends this time on which tdi variant you use. A 1z,ahu tdi will use same mounts as fitted to your AAZ but a AFN from a Audi will need a bespoke right hand mount fabricating or buying from somewhere like HA Projekt(expensive).I am assuming the above holds true for earlier engine bearers which are a different profile to later ones-Plenty info on 80-90/Brickyard. short answer is yes, a TDI will fit on your jx stuff. You just need to get the right engine... 1Z,AHU,AFN are the codes to look for and they are listed in easyness of install. If you want to use the jx mounts, make sure the above engines are from a transverse mounted car. If you pick an engine from a longitudinal car, the off side mount will have to be fabricated or bought.
You then get into whether your using the jx exhaust manifold or the TDI one, TDI one means the nearside mount needs to be fabbed or bought. You then have the electrics to sort... then you have your gearing.. It's not a cheap option to do (i have a AFN on tdi exhaust manifolds from a longitudinal car and hydraulic engine mounts) but if you get the gearing right, it makes the van a lovely thing to drive. And it's a much quieter engine than a AAZ

I will start having a look seriously now at what i will need to do and start looking out for an engine. I just didn't want to speed too much time without a quick check from people more experienced than me first.

If i go ahead i will start a threat if people are interested. I get so much info from 80-90 that I try to put something back when I can. If it's been done to death then I won't bother.
