Stainless steel Exhaust U clamps? for JP Exhaust

The (formerly) zinc plated exhaust clamps on my JP Exhaust are looking rather worse for wear now after 4/5 years and I was wondering if anywhere sells stainless steel U clamps?

I need
4 x 42mm clamps
3x 48mm clamps

I have found 42mm clamps at U bolts R us for £30 for 43

and 48mm clamps on ebay via poland for £16 for 3
all are 304 stainless

Would these be ok strength wise, and does anyone know of a place that sells both 42mm and 48mm stainless clamps (that may be cheaper)?

Just rang a mate who works at jp exhausts.He recons the stainless ones keep working loose.Otherwise they would be using them.I suggested using two nuts,one as a locking nut.He said they have tried that and they still work loose.He suggested trying the MIKALOR type clamps.But that means stripping the exhaust.

I am inclined to agree Ian. Just have to remember to change them more regularly than once every 2.5 years :roll:

I'll have to cut some off they are that corroded :roll:

42mm £0.99 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Exh ... 2392wt_836" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

48mm £1.79 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/48MM-1-7-8-In ... 2194wt_963" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So £9.33 all in

Rob, Mikalor clips can be undone and bent round the joints ... we use them here ( :wink: ) BUT I'm not sure they will go tight enough without stripping the thread in the clip. Plus the band itself may be stainless but the bolt/captive nut isn't.

Then use stainless aerotyte nuts ... we use them as well :lol:

Ian.

So what are we saying now?

Stainless U clamps with aerotyte nuts?

Found 42mm stainless U clamps for £4 here (from Poland) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181140962550? ... 1994wt_726" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Though they don't seem that heavy duty to me :|

That's not even accounting for the cost of the aerotight nuts (in my case) which pushes it up to nearly £60

I can change the mild steel clamps 6 times over for that :lol:

Ah well. It was worth a try.

We have PRC (sealant) here that we use on parts that are near the engines on military aircraft that I may use to overseal the nuts, which should make them easier to get off the next time

Thinking about it its my nuts that are in bad shape :) I might just try aerotight nuts on the mild steel clamps.

The U bolts on mine have crumbled to half their thickness in some cases
