diesel tinware

when i had my diesel syncro i was advised to remove all the tinware around the engine (except the sump guard) to improve the airflow and cooling. This i did and ran for many years with no problems. I now have a bluestar caravelle with all its tinware in place. I'm currently having the head fetled and thought should i replace the tin or not? Has anyone any thoughts?
