Hello, I wonder if somebody can help?
I recently purchased a 1980 LHD Westfalia Joker and i am trying to put a few things right.
Can anybody tell me what the ignition timing should be set at? Its a 2L Aircooled engine.
Also where can i buy a sparkplug for the petrol heater?
Thanks

Ill time it to 4ATDC. Im in Market Drayton by the way.
Do you know anything about Gas conversions on 2L engines and how much it costs? Ive already got a gas bottle for the fridge and cooker can you use it for an engine?
Thanks

Hi again James
Hope you have got your timing sorted.
About Gas conversion, we have had our camper coverted last May by Gasure ( Steve Shaw, one of the founder members of 80-90 ). We had a LPG fuel tank and a leisure tank fitted. We are very pleased with it especially cost of LPG.
Actual cost of the conversion you will have to see the Gasure site or talk to Steve, very nice man !!!
I think the Westy should already have a leisure tank underneath ( I could be wrong ) but you will have to get at least a 45+ litre (80%fill) tank for use as fuel for the conversion as u know the van only does 17 to 22 MPG.
If you want to pop down and see our camper and the conversion or any other queries , then give me a ring or let me know your phone number and ill contact you...Please call phone number in profile...
Cheers Alan

My van is beating me
I can get about 500yds and it cuts out then give it 5 mins it goes again.
Fuel is getting through and im getting a spark, ive changed plugs, leads, cap, rotor arm and coil.(Just as i was going to anyway) and ive still got a problem. Any ideas? It seems to be after the van has warmed up slightly. Ive got a small black box which some of the wires from the dizzy go into could it be this? (Not sure what it is)
Thanks
James

In theory yes in practice no cooker etc run off the gas with a top take off valve. If you were to invert the bottle maybe? anyway its academic as your cooking fuel (if you buy it from calor) is more expensive than petrol station LPG

Hi James
I have sent you a PM
The black box is the ignition control amplifier and yes it could be this causing the cut out but also could be a multitude of other things too..
Give me a ring..
Alan
