Fitting new oil pump

About to have a new oil pump fitted to my DJ WBX... Any pointers to make it as easy as poss and without going about it in a long winded way?.. Also anything I should no about fitting it "properly"... Thanks

Drop oil
Remove silencer and tinware
Support bottom of engine on a piece of wood on an axle stand
this is a great time to investigate (and replace if neccesary) engine mounts IF as I recall the bar /cradle has to come off
remove cover
pull pump out

Fitting is the reverse of removal ... the 4 M6 cover nuts are supposed to be replaced, I recall refitting mine with a smear of Blue Hylomar to seal them against the cover.

Also a good time to check/replace the low pressure sender near the pump, check the oil cooler hoses and reseal the oil filler tube if leaking all of which are now easily accessible.

I bought a pair or gaskets and the nuts for the plate( brickie said the cover didn't come with nuts.. But it did!) does the thinner gasket go plate side? Also looks like there could be an o ring used??? There is an o ring type channel ????

Sorry can't remember about gaskets and O-rings etc as it's a long time ago :?

So new oil pump installed and a good trip up the road to see what's what.... Well guess what.. NO FREAKIN DIFFERENT!!!!! :twisted: What next???????

Long story going back a few years. On a London hard drive pushing on a bit the oil buzzer would go off, put it down to old oil?.. Over a few years it kept doing it so fitted some gauges to see what was going on. It seem that at operating temp 80 deg I have pitiful oil pressure.. Exactly half what you would expect across the rev range( 1 bar @ 2k , 1.5 @ 3k and 0.5 at idle but almost 5 bar when cold!
Replaced the pump to rule it out . Engine goes perfectly, pulls hard, stays cool, uses no oil or water and sounds sweet .. Not a rattle or clank!!! Engine probably hasn't done 20k.....

Did you ever work for Haynes?

Getting the pump out can be quite hard in my experience
The hole for the puller did not exist in the two i tried so it was a screwdriver and a hammer job

I have the same engine
Is your oil cooler getting coolant?

Normal engine temp is 85-87 deg... the oil temp is controlled by coolant temp
since you have good oil pressure at cold temps, it suggests a few things.

your oil temp is getting too high.
wrong oil type (thin)
pressure relief valve faulty
worn mains
oil is foaming due to high temps.

to name a few, not saying it's any of these just giving you some thoughts

When my coolant temp went over the half way mark, the oil pressure dramatically dropped.
