Hi all,
I'm curious about what other T25 owners are getting to the tank. I know these things aren't that great but can't help wondering if mine is worse than most and if it is, what I might be able to do about it. I've got an '82 model with 1.9 Aircooled, with twin webers. It was reconditioned a few thousand miles ago and I'm getting a little under 300 miles to a tank and thats on the motorway. Was wondering how this compares to others with a similar set up, or if that sounds particularly bad. Also wondering if there's anything pretty simple I could do to improve on this, as it does make road trips quite expensive.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

If yours is an Air Cooled motor then it's likely a 2.0litre & not a 1.9 (Petrol, Air cooled 1.6 or 2.0litre......water cooled 1.9 & 2.1 litre)

Tank capacity on 2wd vehicles is approximately 13 gallons so to do 300 miles that's a little over 23mpg and that would be completely from EMPTY.
Working on the basis that you have at least half a gallon left in the tank when you refill that takes the fuel consumption up to 24mpg, and for a 2.0 litre air cooled engine this is a very respectable figure on a run.

As for improving, get LPG, a little less MPG but MUCH less cost per litre!

OK, now I don't feel so hard done by. Have thought about LPG, but haven't got any further than that yet, seem to remember hearing cost in the region of 2K, so will let it ferment a bit longer.

Costs about £1150 and pays for itself in under 14 thousand miles. After 14K you fuel bills are much cheaper (equivalent to low/mid 30's mpg)

At 61p a litre it's a no brainer for me...

I love lpg

that is cheap for lpg,it has been reduced to 69.9 here,the BP that is directly across the road from the Shell is 4p a litre more

Much depends on how you actually drive. Mine is incredibly responsive and others that have driven it say the same but my employer recently cut everyones mileage allowance to a ridiculous 20p a mile.

I can just do it but have to build up speed SO, SO slowly, creating tailbacks sometimes but blowed if I'm paying for journeys related to works business. What they're saving on business fuel costs they're now losing in time lost on journeys but no other way I can tackle it. I think they forget its not just petrol you use but you wear tyres out too. Grrrr.

What? Mine is the NZ$ equilvalent of about 60p a mile if I get a callout. Thats based on the average running cost of a vehicle here in NZ. If they tried to pull that one on us, I'd tell them they can give me a pool car to take home when I'm on call!

Revenue and Customs official rate is 45p/mile so I saw the other day. 20p/mile is extracting the urine.

It's 45p / mile for the first 10,000 miles, 20p / mile after that. I'm no expert, but I think if your employer only pays 20p per mile, then you might be able to claim tax relief against the remaining 25p - might be worth checking with HMRC.

I also think those rates are MAXIMUM as opposed to what's have to pay.

Maximum that will attract tax relief I should have thought.
