Brake line joint to flexi

Model:- 1983 DG pop top, early brakes
Problem:- Front o/s brake line nipple into very early Brickwerks stainless flexi hose- leaking.
I got some unused and from the packaging early Brickwerks (different logo from now) SS brake flexis from my neighbours at a show last year. At the time of fitting I noticed that I had to do up the solid brake line nipple to the flexi very very tightly where it joins on the chassis as opposed to nearer the caliper. I had the same experience with the other flexis but got them all sealed eventually. I realise that brake lines are critical and that sealant etc should not be used. SO- is it possible to but a ready made brake line for the front o/S from the 'T' piece up to the flexi joint? Brickies do some but not this one it seems. Is it possible that these early ss flexis are in some way incompatible with my old solid lines or ..........
It is possible that the lines were disturbed after a garage replaced the opposite side ball joints recently. Is it possible to put too much force into doing up the joints? thanks.
NB Can you safely ever use compression joints on brake pipes?
