Our van Betty has broken, the linkage from the gear selector and gearbox has broken. We are due to go to Alive and V-Dubbin on Friday so I need a new one fitted ASAP.
Firstly where's the best place to get one from and secondly how easy are they to fit?
Any help is greatly appreciated

Editing your post to a better title might draw a faster response.
"Help please..linkage from the gear selector broken."
just sayin
Do you mean the arm or the rod?

Have edited, hopefully that will help.
It's the part where the rod connects on to the gearbox.

Hello sorry to hear about your gear linkage problem.
There are a lot of experienced folk on the forum but for them to help you, I think you need to be specific about the fault and provide a pic or two of the linkage.
Also give precise details of your van, do we assume it is air cooled with 2l cu engine? I am doing a refurb on my linkages at the moment and the linkage from rod to gearbox seems quite simplistic.
So which part is broken? What are the symptoms?

I think that's a fair description

What part of town are you in - might be able to pop around and have a look.

We're in Trimley St Martin, just near the Hand in Hand pub.
I will pop to GSF in Ipswich today to see if I can order the new part.
UPDATE
Just spoken to VW Heritage and they pointed me to this part :
http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_Joi ... try_GB.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This is the bit that has come off but I still have it, does it just sit it the bracket? Should there be something else holding it in?
Will take pictures of what is still connected under the van so you can offer advice.
Sorry it's all sketchy but I am new to all this.

I would say that you have just lost your nut

if you still have the lever.
I will PM you as you may not know how to use it.

Are the rubber bellows still on the gearbox shaft?

Yep all rubbers still on there. A lost nut would explain it a little more as nothing seems to be broken, should be able to get a proper look under there tomorrow and see what's happened. Thanks for the replies and offers of help, if I get stuck tomorrow I'll be in touch.

If you look on the pic above you will see the guide ring that appears to be missing from your guide pin. Also you are missing the rubber bellows that is supposed to cover the guide pin.

Yeah, so I see. I'll order them at the same time.
Thanks again for fixing her, I owe you one. Let me know if you ever need a hand with something.
Will take her for a spin later
