Hi. I have a 1989 VW T25. Hi top camper. 2.1 litre Petrol/Gas conversion. 5speed.
My problem is that the battery has gone dead flat within about a week. I have now a ruined battery that will not recharge. I have only just bought the van so do not know the history but was told the battery was quite new. My previous vw motorhome also did the same thing and required the battery charging every 2 weeks because the alarm drain was heavy.
Is the alarm draining this the same ????? How long should one be able to leave a vehicle alarm set before having to either run the engine or charge? When its flat the alarm sounds and all goes dead. Would appreciate any help/
Regards BOYROY

Hi and welcome to club 80-90 aka the madhouse.

Some types of alarm, notably the ones with interior active ultrasonic motion detectors, can easily drain a good battery in a couple of weeks. If you set it for perimeter guard only (with immobiliser too) then the battery charge will last a lot longer. You may wish to mount a solar panel on the roof of your van to keep the battery charge topped up or better still drive it instead of just letting it sit there and rot! These vans do like to be used regularly and don't like being laid up where the gremlins can get at them.

The moderators may possibly move this thread to the technical forum as it is not really a subject for this one. A thread just to say hello and introduce yourself is good in "General Chat" however.

By the way, update your profile to show roughly whereabouts you live and list your van's details there too. This may help people to help you.
