I have a T25 California, with a pop top roof.

The roof hasn't been opened for quite a while ... OK, not since last year.

When I opened it today, the inside of the roof was covered in mould

I have cleaned it, carefully with a toothbrush (my wife's) and some sterilising liquid, used neat (see below)



It has done the trick, no mould present.

However, there is also mould on the grey canvas, but am I correct in assuming this liquid would bleach the canvas.

is there any other way to remove the mould ?

A mate says I should buy one of those wee cheap dehumidifier units, sold for caravans etc. I did think about that last year, but somehow, never got around to buying one. Any advice of these would be appreciated too.

It won't get rid of the mould but open windows with the wind deflectors fitted to create air flow. This stops/slows mould build up.

Somebody has suggested I buy some silica cat litter, stick it in a tray, or inside some old stockings and leave it the van.

Might try that ... a big bag is only a couple of quid at Home Bargains

I'll also try and remember to lift the roof every so often, when the weather is dry and sunny ... that's the snag, here in Whitley Bay, that isn't very common

I used some of this for the mouldy marks on my poptop roof (internally & externally) and it brought it up a treat - effortless to use as well!:

Dettol Mould and Mildew remover is really good and it hasn't bleached the canvas on my pop up, but I would test it in an unconspicuous spot first, It's not expensive and will be useful for next year even if it won't do the canvas! I have tried the little de-humidifiers with the crystals in but not much has worked. I think it's because I dn't use enough of them for the space. I guess cat litter in a container would be worth a try.

cat litter will try to absorb the moisture in the air from the entire planet!

your van is not air tight.. remember that
