Hello all new seals arrived today from Metal Micky, could anyone give any advice on fitting seals with inserts for the side windows?

Tailgate window will rope trick in, easy enough never done the other kind before.

Do i need glues to join the ends after cutting the seals to the right size?

Do the inserts go in last?

A general how to would be muchly appreciated.

Remove the old window and clean around the edge of the opening. Treat any rust! Starting at the top middle fit the new seal around the opening making sure you get right into the corners when you meet the other piece (masking tape helps to hold it up) cut it about an inch too long and work it in again use masking tape if needed.

Clean the glass up. I used a suction device on the glass to have one hand free and get the bottom 2 corners in. Using a plastic implement of some sort, I used a paint stirer cost about 20p from a DIY shop (never use anything metal) work the seal over the glass up each side using loads of cheap glass cleaner and some one pushing the seal out from the inside helps. Eventually you'll get it in all the way round. That's the hard bit done! Now is the time if you want to add roofing mastic under the seal as a precaution but Metalmick8ys seals are great and shouldn't be needed but up to you.

Starting at the middle bottom. Get the insert tool in ya right hand and thread the insert through the eye. Spray the track where the insert with more cheap glass cleaner and work the eye into the track. Now with light pressure push the tool to the left. Never stretch the insert as you go round! When you meet the other end trim the end about an inch too big and work in. If you used roofing sealant clean the excess away with white spirit.

Oh I read somewhere to join the seal at the bottom. Do you join the beading at the top then?

Is it possible to get the insert in without the special tool? I don't have one as of yet.

Also does the insert go in or outside the van?

insert out side, you realy do need the tool, a cheap one will work £10,

Cheers Mike nipped to the car spares/tool shop today with a picture on my fone of the insert tool and got the old blank look syndrome

Seen em on ebay for a tenner, but will keep looking here to save on postage.

Just what i was looking for a nice little how to! as for sealer is it worth it? and if so what kind of sealer? Tiger Seal? or something else.

Any black roofing mastic will do so long as its none setting!
