Hi guys - as above really!

Just looking at booking ferry for France and I save a whole £50 if van is 2.0M as opposed to 2.5M!

Before the obvious answer of, measure your van - I'm away till Friday or I would!!

Do you drive with it up or down?

Well it's definitely more than 2m as a tin-top is approx 1.96m

Pop tops tend to be around 2.1m-2.2m

If it's only a few cms over you could try letting the tyres down before driving aboard.

Are you seriously suggesting someone lets their tyres down in order to save 50 quid to get on a ferry?

Can just see it now....save 50 quid and then spend 100's more replacing the tyres at the other end because they're knackered because they've been driven on whilst flat...classic!

Try a different ferry - prices and heights vary from one company to another! I only paid £108 return with DFDS in July/August.

Not much choice of ferries as travelling Hull to Zebrugge; I think ill manage the extra £50!

I did notice the winking smiley but was unsure if it was used to give the OP(or anyone else)a tip for getting on a ferry cheaper or if it was actually an attempt at humour.....as all my ribs are still intact I decided on the former...

queston, would they actually measure the vehicle at the ferry? if you'd booked at 2m and it was actually 2.2m, would anyone know?

Ouch, that crossing is 2.5 times the cost of my crossing to Calais and its some distance from France. Also you won't get away with trying to pretend you are driving a car at a lower height. You're vehicle is classed as a motorhome whichever ferry you use. There are different height deals but you are still driving a motorhome. It can be annoying when cars that are longer and nearly as high pay less for their crossings, but heh that's life!

Note to self: Don't write anything here that is outrageously stupid for fun as there will always be someone who believes it is for real. ( Now is that smiley serious or not? Who knows?)
