Figure 8 or Pole and clamps

I have just bought a Khyam XC awning with pole and clamps.

Is this the best/ easiest way to fix awnings to the van?

I have beading on my van so normal figure a doesn't work unless you attack it with hair dry and screwdriver to open up one side. Has anyone else opened up the figure 8 to fit to a beaded gutter.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I asked this similar question a while back and decided to go for the pole and clamps and it works a treat.

I opened up my figure of 8 with a craft knife. Works fine now.

I use a standard fig 8 on a Westy gutter with black trim, can be a little tight going on but at least you know it won't come off in windy conditions. Fig 8 can leak in wet conditions where the sections join, but found that rubbing the ends with a wax crayon prevent this.
Just used my new Vango awning, which comes with clamps, straps & Fig 8 options. The clamps look like they may scratch the gutter paint work, so believe that the Fig 8 is a better option ( can't use the straps 'cos of the poptop).

Thanks for all your help.

I will open up the figure 8 as it looks the easiest to use. On my test piece a warm hair dryer makes it very easy to open up and when fitted to the van I can't pull it off unless I lift it slightly.

Having tried both, pole and clips is quicker and just as effective. I found the fig8 rather fiddly and time consuming to fit/refit every time we drove off the day.

You can buy clamps with rubber backing so they don't scratch the gutters.

I find the pole and clamps much better than the figure of eight :ok
