Solex or other?

My current solex carbs on my 2.0 CU Devon are in need of replacing (they were bodged by the previous owner and are unable to be repaired). I am trying to decide if I should replace them with....

A. A replacement set of Solex's from a nice chap on here

or

B. A shiny set of single or twin empi, webbers etc etc

I know I can do roughly 20-22mpg at the moment but would like to know if anyone has an idea on what they are able to get from theirs on a similar setup with new carbs. Just trying to work out what gain I would get and how long it may take for them to pay for themselves if at all.

Thanks very much

One option re value for money and gain. Delorto drla 36 or 40mm dual twin chokes. More mpg more power and awesome sound.
Icts offer no gain and aren't the best, central weber thing strangles the motor as its under choked for a 2000cc despite what jk tell you.

Hi Jason,

I dont suppose you have an educated guess on what sort of MPG that Dells could achieve if setup correclty?

26 mpg is do able I saw 28 once with gentle use on a long run, thing is you'll be down to 16 for the first week as you revel in the glorious induction note!!

I agree with Jasons mpg values, I fitted Dell 36s and have been surprised with the relative economy compared to the original Solex's, which were knac*ered.
The're not a cheap option, but once over the intial pain well worth it :ok
Good luck

If its performance you want my 1980 Aircooled does 0-60 in about 8 seconds with the Solex on.

To be fair, I can only reach 60 if I get a good long flat road.

Its more improved MPG and a better pull along the motorway I am after and my current solexs are unable to be tuned due to a previous bodge.
