Best place for engine parts

I am planning a top end rebuild of my 1982 2.0 Aircooled. I have lost compression on one cylinder on each side, checked all the obvious, adjusted the hydraulic lifters etc and have come to the conclusion that it is going to be new barrels and pistons and probably heads as well. Won't know for definite until I start taking it apart. I intend to do this myself but wondered where people recommend for parts and or advice.

If you wish, Get yourself a copy of tom wilsons how to rebuild the Aircooled vw engine, john muir's idiot guide and the excellent bugme volume 8 type 4 engine rebuild dvd by jake raby, will show you everything you need to know on stripping, checking , measuring and rebuilding the air cooled type 4 motor. GSF for piston rings if your cylinders are still ok, machine mart sell a cheap honning tool for a drill. I have used S.E.P in kegworth leicestershire for machine work/ head work for both air cooled vw engines and bike engines and never had a problem with their work ( on air cooled vw heads they heat the heads up in a oven before they remove/replace valve seats unlike some places which just drive them out and in cold  ) and they dont rip you off. Jim at state side tunning can supply you with the best quality bearings if you decide to strip the whole engine and anything else you need parts wise or machining but at a price.

Have fun :ok
